Hey, how you doin’? ;-)
Oooh boy! On Saturday I’m going to the Stitch and Craft Show in London. Nothing fancy, just going as a regular visitor. But wouldn’t it be cool if I had official business there?! ;-)
It’s kind of a big deal for me because, well, it means getting out of my comfort zone. My comfort is being at home doing my thing.
I’m an introvert, you see. Which isn’t a bad thing. It just is what it is. But it can be a bit difficult to navigate in a world where most people seem to be extroverts. I say ‘seem’ because a lot of people are introverts and they don’t even realise it! Or they are ‘functioning’ extroverts..
Social settings aren’t my favourite thing.. I’m not good at small talk; I get its function, but I usually find it kinda boring. No offence to the person I am talking to. I just prefer more meaningful conversation. Or just being quiet. There’s a lot of meaningless chatter in the world…
And don’t even get me started on chatter in the morning! Yikes. I think Tony is starting to learn that mornings are not a good time to have conversations with me. And it’s not because I’m still asleep! I just need a bit of time to..adjust to having to talk to someone else.
Introverts prefer to think about things. If someone asks me something I like to take a few moments to think about my reply. If you’re impatient all I’ve got is “I don’t know”. So just let me do my thing for a moment, preferably let me get back to you tomorrow! ;-)
Kinda wish certain people in my family would respect that and not try and guess my answers or what I’m thinking. I’m not slow, just considerate – deliberate – careful – thoughtful…
Whereas extroverts get energised by being surrounded by lots of people, we introverts tend to get our energy from within ourselves, so being with lots of people for extended periods of time can be quite draining. We don’t blame other people for this. It just is what it is.
Sometimes, if I’ve been in London, with all its hustle and bustle, even just for a few hours, to see an exhibition or whatever, I can feel completely exhausted.
Being an introvert can be a bit of a pain. However, I think it also helps a lot. Being a creative person you need to be able to spend time with yourself and just put the hours into your work.. Honestly, I could go on about this introvert thing, because I find it kinda interesting how we’re so different from extroverts.. And by the way, being introverted doesn’t necessarily mean that you are weird, or don’t like people or that you are shy..!
So yes… getting out of that comfort zone! I know it’s good for me. Seeing new things and meeting new peeps is inspiring.
I don’t talk about business a lot here.. mainly because, well, who am I to talk about Business! I’m just little old me.. But I do have a tiny business and going to this show I hope I can make some contacts to hopefully further the business of Polka & Bloom.
Maybe you’re going to Stitch and Craft too? I would love to say hello, but maybe we can skip the small talk? Or if we must talk about the weather, let’s talk about our favourite cloud formations..? Or we could just talk about stitchy stuff. ;-)
And I’ll just have to make up for all this interacting by relaxing on Sunday..!
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
