Remember I mentioned The Art of the Hobbit? How I just couldn’t resist it? Well, I got it last week and it’s amazing. I really, really love it. It’s full of Tolkien’s own drawing and paintings and they are just wonderful to look at. And reading about the creation of the pieces is just delightful.
What I hadn’t realised is that it comes in a slipcase, which I think is a really nice touch and makes it even more special. I’m trying to just read a little bit at a time to make it last longer.
Below are a few shots of some spreads from the book. There are quite a few pages which are double so you have to unfold them to see all the steps in the journey of a design. That is so lovely, it’s like discovering the art yourself.
If you are into drawing, reading about how art pieces come to be, and of course if you love Tolkien, then I really recommend this book. It is beautifully laid out and sure to inspire you. And I wouldn’t be surprised if this became a collector’s item, so get it while you can. :-)
