Today is Pay A Blogger Day. This is an initiative by the good folks at Flattr. It’s a gentle encouragement to support the bloggers (or other artists, content makers etc) in a small way. You can of course do this in many ways. Buy their paintings, patterns, ebooks etc and so on.
But the easiest way is to use Flattr itself. If you’ve not heard of Flattr before, here’s their own description:
When you’re registered to flattr, you pay a small monthly fee. You set the amount yourself. At the end of the month, that fee is divided between all the things you flattered. You’re always logged in to the account. That means that giving someone some flattr-love is just a button away. And you should! Clicking one more button doesn’t add to your fee, it just divides the fee between more people! Flattr tries to encourage people to share. Not only pieces of content, but also some money to support the people who created them. With love!
Blogging, or creating any other content, takes time. Oodles of time, which your favourite bloggers spend on whatever it is they do, because they love it. But if we regularly read a blog or follow someone’s video tutorials on YouTube, if that content is valuable to us, it’d be great to give something back, don’t you think?
Even if it’s just a little bit. Because even the little bits add up eventually. And Flattr is a great way to do just that. With a simple mouse click you can give a little something to that favourite blogger who inspires you with her posts and brightens your day with her pretty photos.
Once you’ve signed up for a Flattr account and added some funds to it, you can go out there in the blogosphere and support the people who create your favourite content. You’ll see a button similar to the green one in the image above. Whether it’s on a blog post (you will see a button at the bottom of this post, for example) or a blog in general or some other type of site. Simply click that button and you’ve supported that person in one easy-peasy step.
If you’re a blogger yourself you can of course add a button to your own blog. The more people who do this the more people we can support and be supported by.
And so, since today is Pay A Blogger Day, there’s no better day to start using Flattr and start supporting the people you love. :-)
If you’ve got Flattr on your blog/site, do let me know so I can support you. :-)
Oh my, I just realised that this is post number 2000 on this blog! Thank you for reading! :-)
