Groundhog Day Quilt Mission

Photo. Close view of a partially finished patchwork made from white fabric and multicolour fabric squares.

Whenever the film Groundhog Day is on telly, I think to myself “ohh, I wonder what that quilt pattern is?!”

On New Year’s Eve it was on and I had that thought again. But this time I decided that I’d do something more about this than just a cursory Google search. I found a couple of links where initially I thought I’d found it. But nothing was quite right.

So I have decided that I am going to make a pattern! This was supposed to be an ‘in the background’ project but of course I have become completely obsessed with it. Obviously. :-D

I have researched potential patterns, or pattern types. Watched the film so I could stop and take a good look whenever the quilt was in the frame. Frustratingly, you never get a view of the whole thing.

The main part of the pattern is done! And as you can see, I have made a little test of one section of it. But I haven’t got enough white fabric to make the whole thing. I’m basically waiting for online fabric shops to have a sale on. Maybe for Mother’s Day? :-)

Anyway, since I would really like to replicate the vintage, made from scraps spanning decades, look of the quilt in the film, I am hoping that fellow fans would send me some squares to use in the quilt. To make it truly random! And also because I don’t have a lot of fabrics like the ones used in the quilt. I have plenty of other fabric but not much with a vintage-y, floral vibe as in the quilt in the film.

So, if you would be interested in contributing 25 (or more) already cut 2.5″ squares, with a floral, vintage, feed sack vibe to the quilt, then I’d be very grateful. And I will send you a PDF copy of the pattern when it’s finished.

If you would like to help me with my mission, please join here.

x Carina

P.S. Happy Imbolc! :-)

It’s a scrappy or double Irish chain quilt.
