Monday last week was the last day in the 100 Day Project and this is the result of my 100 days of stitching this Toni Morrison quote. I am happy with how it turned out. I had fun doing the different stitches but at one point I just couldn’t think of new stitches to use so I filled the last third of the quote with beads.

I enjoyed doing the beads but I’m not 100% loving the result. Mainly because the letters are so small and the beads are kind of obscuring them. I’m not entirely sure that you can read them if you don’t know what they are?

I’ll put the quote at the bottom of the post. :-)

Is it weird that I sort of struggled to find new stitches to use? There are literally hundreds of embroidery stitches. But I guess a lot of them are not suitable for such a small area, or this type of fabric. Towards the end of the embroidered section I found myself gravitating to satin stitch, chain stitch and cross stitch. That’s part of the reason why I started using the beads…

Apart from the beaded letters being slightly illegible, I do love the look of them. I wish that I had more seed bead colours because it was a bit of a challenge to distinguish some of the colours. But I think it turned out ok in the end.

Here is the quote in the embroidery:

This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal. ~ Toni Morrison
