Happy Summer Solstice

It is the start of the summer and what a start it is/has been indeed! The past week has been mid-high twenties Celsius, sometimes into the 30s. Today will be a hot day as well. A bit too hot for my liking. 21-23°C is nice. Warm, but not too hot. :-)

Anyway, I’m not here to waffle on about the weather! I made another page for my Wheel of The Year project. And this time I actually finished it. What a novelty! I think I have a couple of the precious pages that are still waiting for their embroidery…

This is how one of these pages typically starts. The background, various elements scattered about while I try to figure out how to place them so they make roughly a circular shape. It’s not always easy. Rarely, to be honest! While I’m faffing about I usually wonder how it will ever come together.

Thankfully, it always does, somehow, in the end. :-)

I was actually going to use poppies in this page but on my walks recently, I keep seeing the Common Mallow flower and so I chose that instead. I love it almost as much as poppies.

I think I originally had much more elaborate plans for the lettering but I am actually really happy with this stitch: laced chain stitch. You can’t really see it in the photo, but the chain stitch and the lacing are done with two different colours. A nice subtle effect.

I am using the same stitch on all the pages and on some of them the lacing is more obvious.

Right, let’s see if I can keep up the momentum and get the next page finished on time! :-)
