On Saturday it was this blog’s 20th birthday. That feels pretty significant. I wanted to celebrate it on the day but I couldn’t figure out what to (think or) say about it.
I am actually kind of amazed that I am still actively blogging. So many of the blogs I used to read have gone quiet or completely gone away. There are now many other ways one can share crafts and photos and opinions etc. And some of my sharing has moved away from the blog. But it is always there. My archive, my journal. It feels important to keep it going because this is my space. I don’t have to worry about algorithms or the whims of tech bro owners of the various social media platforms.
I wonder if the blog has survived because I have never had a schedule or rules I needed to stick to. Sometimes I have a lot to share, sometimes less. I am not beholden to anyone else, either. Apart from a handful of sponsored blog posts, and a short period of sidebar ads, the blog has been ad free. Perhaps that is also part of why the blog is still here. I don’t have to keep pumping out posts to make sure that the blog gets the right amount of visits and views and so on.

Metrics are not monitored here. The only metric that I notice is the volume of comments. Which is not a lot. Not these days. I am guilty of this as much as anyone. We are consumers of blogs now, more than actively communicating with the people behind the words. I guess that’s what we have learnt from other social media? Maybe?
But please do say hello, I’d love to hear from you. :-)
I just went back through the archive and read blog birthday posts from other years. Five years. Six years. Nine years. 13 years. It is fun to read through those posts. Some of them have advice or lessons from blogging which I think are still pretty solid. :-)
Maybe one day I will stop blogging, but for the time being I’ll still be here, doing my thing, at my own pace, in my little corner of the Internet. I hope you will keep reading. Whether you have just come across the blog or have been following for a while, thank you! :-)

If you would like to support this ad free corner of the Internet, there is a tip jar here. Thank you. x
Congratulations on 20 years! I always love your blogs!
And I love that you have a space that’s metric free that you can attend to on your own schedule. That’s so precious.

Thank you so much, Kate! :-)
Happy Blogiversary! I think you’re right about the scheduling freedom. I’m still blogging, but so intermittently it almost doesn’t count except that for me, I love having it there as a journal and record and place to see what I’ve been working on. You put so much goodness out into the world, just know some of us are still here reading!

Thank you, Shannon! And thank you for still reading! :-)
My posts have become more sporadic, compared to what it used to be. But it’s still here, and, like you, I love having this record of the past 20 years.
