It’s new embroidery pattern day! The Floral Fiesta Mandala pattern has been in the works since early February I think. It was kind of time consuming because look at all that satin stitching! But I enjoyed it very much. Satin stitch is one of my favourite stitches.

Another stitch favourite is back stitch. So simple and so versatile. I quite like this version of the pattern (before adding the satin stitch). It would also be fun to make an outline version using the colours in the filled-in version. The possibilities are endless…

I am very happy with how the embroidery turned out. I think you can see here that all the satin stitching is going in the same direction. I think that helps to make it look like even solid colour. If I had changed the direction in each of the four quarters then it would have been too obvious.

I love how the light catches on the thread, it almost shines. The embroidery is very tactile because satin stitch has thread on the underside which adds volume. I am just so happy with how this pattern turned out. It is one of those rare occasions where I don’t really have any criticisms of my own work. In fact, I almost can’t believe that I made it! :-)

Floral Fiesta Mandala is in my shop now.
