Green Wonky Log Cabin Quilt

Photo of a green quilt scrunched up on a table. The quilt is made of square blocks made from mostly green strips of fabric but other colours make an appearance too.

I started this quilt in late February, or maybe early March, this year. There have been a couple of other posts about it, here and here. The quilt has now been received so I can share it fully. I am happy to say that my friend really liked it. It was a complete surprise that I had made it. :-)

The quilt is made of square blocks sewn together on point to make a diamond grid. Most of the squares are made from strips of green fabric, but some have other colours as well.

The finished quilt in all its glorious greenness. I am so happy with this quilt. One of my favourites I have ever made. :-)

When I started working on the quilt, my plan was to just do a regular grid, but I am glad that I had the idea to lay the blocks out on point one day. Even if it meant some extra work, both physically (making the triangular blocks) and mentally (figuring out how to make the triangular blocks.)

It just makes me happy every time I look at the quilt. I almost can’t believe that I made it…

I am also very happy with the fabric I found for the back. Quilting fabric is expensive so I try to find other options.

For a few recent quilts, that has been to check the Dunelm website for duvet covers in 100% cotton, sorting them so they show they lowest prices first. Then I go through what is available until I find something that suits the quilt and isn’t too expensive. Sometimes, if they have a sale on, it’s possible to find a double duvet cover for the price of what one yard of quilting cotton costs. Just a tip for any UK quilters. Other countries probably have shops where you can find something similar. :-)

And of course no less than two neighbours’ cats turned up while I was taking the photos in the garden… :-)
