Friday Links :: Free Pattern, Emails for Trees, Origami

Teaching January 9 2018 at The Village Haberdashery
On Tuesday I was back at The Village Haberdashery teaching beginner embroidery. It really is one of my very favourite things to do. It makes me so so happy to see people learn this craft I love so much. All the heart eyes! ;-)

Free pattern alert! You can download one of the patterns from Mandalas to Embroider on the Calm/In the Moment website.

And good news if you’re in the US and waiting for Mandalas, according to Amazon.com it will be released on February 6th. :-)

What happened when Melbourne assigned email addresses to individual trees. I have favourite trees I walk by almost every day. I’d kinda like to email them. :-) Do you have a favourite tree?

Hearty lentil, kale and potato soup. I tried this recipe and it was delicious! Although I was missing a couple of the ingredients (carrots and kale) and I substituted Puy lentils for the red lentils and used some lemon juice instead of the vinegar.

Tatsuya Tanaka builds tiny worlds. These are pretty amazing!

If you enjoy a variety of music, I recommend the podcast version of a Danish radio programme called Beat City. In each show, they play music about, by artists in or from a particular city. For example: London, Brookly, Stockholm and Glasgow, just to name a few. I know, I know, most of you probably don’t understand Danish, but it’s mostly music anyway, so I definitely think it’s worth a listen.

As an additional tip: get the Shazam app on your mobile or tablet, that way you can use that to get the names of bands and song titles if you don’t catch it from listening to the presenter.

How to Turn Everyday Scenes Into Exciting Sketch Ideas. “If you just draw when you are on holiday, you won’t get enough practice to really improve your skills.” I really need to remember this. I need to sketch more!

DIY origami gift boxes. Cute and easy to make.
