Customer love*

When I did all that dyeing, I even threw in a couple of pieces of my own Wonky Dots design, I really love it dyed with pink! (Psst, you can get Wonky Dots over at Spoonflower!)

*Love FOR my customers that is. If you have ever bought a pattern or one of my ebooks, I am eternally grateful to you. I really find it difficult to put it into words how much it means that someone (who isn’t related to me in any way and therefore not duty-bound!) likes something I made or designed, enough to spend their cash on it.

To me that is a big deal. A really big, big deal. It is deepley personal. You are not just a number to me, seriously. I celebrate every time I sell an ebook or if someone buys fabric with my design on Spoonflower. If you don’t believe me, ask Tony! I will invariably turn to him and go “woooo, I sold a pattern!”

I really try my very best to remember people’s names. I actually write them down to better remember them! Ok, I can’t remember them all and I have no delusions that I will be able to keep this up as my small business grows. But it is important to me to make the transaction not just a question of cash for goods. It might sounds cheesy, but I think of my customers as an extended family of sorts. I am really interested in what they make with my patterns etc and that they enjoy using them.

Which brings me to the reason I am writing this- the other day I received an email from one of my customers:

I am so happy with the 2 ebooks I bought from you.  The best $20 I’ve spent.  The layout, text, and photos are excellent! Thanks, HH

A message like that.. oh boy, that is so amazing. Not just because she liked the ebooks, but because she actually took the time to write to me and let me know. That is like, the icing on the cake. Cake is nice and filling, but, man, it is so much sweeter with icing, right?!

So, if you buy something from an indie biz of any kind, especially if you know it is run by a single person who does all the jobs by herself, and you like it, let them know. Yes, supporting indie designers with your wallet is important but letting them know that they are appreciated is also really, really appreciated.

If you have ever bought anything from me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart: you are a rockstar!

♥ Carina
