Tidy Computer. Tidy Mind?

This was my computer desktop about three weeks ago. It was SO cluttered! Despite my ‘system’ of categories. It never ever worked! :-D Of course the desktop was symptomatic of the rest of the computer. A big ol’ mess with duplicate files galore!

But I was considering getting a new computer and I just didn’t want to bring the same mess over to a new computer. So I’ve put a lot of hours into tidying the computer. Deleting old/duplicate stuff. Moving things into the appropriate folders. I now have a system! There’s logic to where things need to go!

This is what the desktop looks like this morning. Just look at it! So tidy! I can even have a nice picture on there because it’s not obscured by clutter. Actually, I could probably delete a few more of the icons…

It’s been extremely boring going through all the old files, but now that it’s done it is really satisfying. I know where everything is supposed to be and where new files need to go. Not just dumped on the desktop. Or worse, in a folder called “needs sorting” or something like that. :-D

I may need to have a bit of a tidy in the house as well. I wish the house came with a search function. Wouldn’t that be neat? “Hey House, where are my winter boots?”

I am also a fan of a minimalistic desktop. Having a good “archive” system not only improves my productivity but also makes the whole computer experience a much calmer one. Bonus: it might free up some storage capacity! Also, it is easier to organize a computer than house tidying up :-)

Yes, I feel more focused working on the computer now I know (approximately) where everything is. Who knew?! :-D
