Fabric And Stitches

Overhead view of small embroidery hoop. In the hoop is fabric with a white base colour and flowers printed on it. Some of the flowers have been covered with hand embroidery.

A little stitchy idea for when you want an embroidery project but can’t be bothered with tracing a pattern. Have a look in your fabric stash for a print that would look lovely covered in embroidery stitches.

Maybe some simple flowers like this design from the Five + Ten line by Denyse Schmidt. Something that is completely covered in a large or small print. Big, blousy flowers, maybe. Or a print with tiny details that you can cover with small stitches like French knots or seed stitch.

And then just go to town with your favourite stitches. Fill in shapes, or leave them empty. Use matching colours, or complementary colours. No rules, just stitchy fun! :-)

What a great idea – I love it. I think it could be fun to do this to a piece of clothing, too, as long as it was something that would hold up to wearing and laundering.

Thank you, Barbara. Love the idea of stitching on clothing too! :-)
