19 Years

Photo, close view of white fabric stretched in a wooden hoop. On the fabric is a quote, partially stitched with lots of bright colours. Ten of the letters have been filled with beads.

This is what my project looks like on day 83 of the 100 Day Project. For reasons I don’t quite understand, I decided that the last third of the quote should be stitched with beads. I’m not 100% sure that it was a great decision but now I started, so I’ll finish it with the beads. The beads are a little bit too large for the letters but hopefully it will be legible(ish).

Today is this blog’s birthday: 19 years. NINETEEN! That’s kinda crazy. The blog has been less active in the past few years but it’s still here. I’m still making things and sharing them. I have no intention of shutering the blog. On the contrary. With social media being a sh*t show in many ways, it’s more important than ever to have a place that no on else has control over.

No algorithm, no spammy DMs, no ads.

And I intend on keeping it that way. (You can support the blog here if you wish.)

If this is the first post you read here, or if you have been along for most of the ride, thank you! :-)

I guess next year I should have a proper celebration of some kind…

A few things that I am working on:

Photo, close up of binding on a quilt.

Sewing the binding on the quilt I was working on through most of April. It is almost finished! The binding is mostly the white/taupe stripe on the left. Why I had that in my stash is a mystery to me, it’s not really colours that I gravitate towards.

I added a length of the Denyse Schmidt fabric from her Flea Market Fancy collection to the binding. Just to give it a bit of interest. And because that pink/yellow one is one of my favourite prints but I haven’t actually used it in the quilt.

Photo. Overhead view of quilt blocks made from strips in many different prints and colours.

More DS fabrics. I had a big bag of (mostly) strips and I decided I would use them for something. I certainly wasn’t going to throw them away! So I spent a weekend chain piecing wonky log cabin blocks. I enjoyed that very much! :-)

I shared a wonky log cabin tutorial on YouTube. There is also a wonky log cabin tutorial here on the blog.

When I started making them I didn’t have a plan for the log cabins but now I do have an inkling of an idea…but I won’t be working on that for a while.

Photo of a large piece of fabric. The fabric is black with an all over print of small flowers in pink and yellow colours.

And I’m making a dress! It’s a copy of a dress I bought a few years ago which I really like. I actually made a copy of the dress last year too and I thought I had saved the pattern I made but it was nowhere to be found so I had to make it again. So what was supposed to be a quick trace and cut the pattern session turned into a whole afternoon of making a pattern and then finally cutting the fabric.

Oh and I actually bought the fabric last year, intending to make it then but never got round to it… C’est la vie. :-D
