Grey Patches

I don’t think I have shared this blanket before? I made it six years ago when we got a new sofa. Part of the reason why we got a new sofa was that Blake had had his dirty paws all over the old one. So I made this blanket to protect the new sofa. From dirty paws and dog hair. So many dog hairs. Blake sheds so much you’d think it were his full time job.

The blanket has done its job. Except for keeping the dog hairs from the sofa, they can pretty much penetrate any material. Although, that’s not so much a problem anymore because (poor) Blake has arthritis in all his legs so he can’t jump on the sofa.

And although the blanket isn’t that necessary any longer, we’ll keep it on there because some dog hairs are still embedded in the sofa, despite thorough vacuuming.

The blanket is starting to show signs of wear and, especially, tear. Quite a lot of the seams have split so I have patched them up. Luckily, I still have some of the original fabrics (probably because I very rarely use black and grey) so I could use them.

With the new patches, it is interesting to see how much the original fabrics have faded in the past six years. Some of them have only faded a little bit but others have faded so much you’d think it were two different versions of the same print.

Some people might just have made a new blanket but I am not those people. :-)

I quite enjoyed patching it and making sure that it can be used for longer and not just cut up for scraps or go in the bin. I like that it is getting more patchy in a sort of haphazard way. At one point it may be more patches than original squares. I think that’s fun. It adds character. :-)
